Are you ready for a break from stress – Part 3

Today I’m are going to talk about the SIMPLE ways to support your brains and body so stress doesn’t drive you bananas.

I’ll use myself as an example.  When I’m anxious or stressed, I want food to make me feel different in a positive way. For that reason, I’ll eat eat root veggies.  For example I’ll eat sweet potatoes, beets, and onions or use sauces made with ginger or turmeric.

If you are wondering why I choose these types of foods, it is because the roots of any plant are its anchor and foundation, its where the plant gets its stability.  They are the parts that support and nourish the plant. Root veggies share their grounding effect when we eat them, making us feel physically and mentally rooted, increasing our stability, stamina and endurance. 

That sure works for me.  I would much rather feel stable then jittery any day.

Root veggies are a rich source of nutrients and provide a steady source of natural sugars to our body.  Instead of upsetting our blood sugar levels like cookies will do, they regulate our blood sugar. And since root veggies absorb, assimilate and supply plants with vital nutrients, they increase absorption and assimilation of nutrients in our digestive tracts.  They are amazingly good for us and will help regulate blood sugar, our mood and even help alleviate cravings.

So many of my clients are managing their stress in a positive way. They’ve learned which foods will help ground them during stressful times and which foods will make things worse. Applauses to the one who is now managing her stress without turning to caffeine; the one who knows sweet potatoes will help her so much more than cookies and the one with that high-pressure job who knows what to eat for lunch to get her through her day with power instead of reaching for donuts or coffee.

No one is immune to stress.  It’s real and it is a major contributor to our bodies feeling achy, uncomfortable and tense.
