Ok …so let’s face it, we all know we need to eat healthy right? But what about when we are on vacation?
Well, can you imagine enjoying every minute of your vacation and coming home without gaining weight?
If you are like many of my clients, you start with the best of intentions but then…there’s those walks on the boardwalk and all those ice cream shops. Or that family style restaurant with homemade bread and pasta. Or the trip to the vineyard restaurant with all those wonderful wines to taste paired all those amazing farm fresh cheeses.
I totally understand because I just returned from vacation. Vacations are so special, and we want to enjoy every moment.
So, here’s what I recommend.
Maintain your healthy relationship with food, just eat real metabolism optimizing food and indulge yourself in every moment of being on vacation.
Instead of throwing caution to the wind and eating all kinds of junk, indulge in the really good stuff. Things that you can’t get at home.
Let me explain. I’ll use my vacation as an example. We just spent the last week on an island in Maine.
Now if you have ever been to Maine, you know it is the lobster capital of the world. So, I indulged in lobster, often. And yes, of course I used butter. However, I ate my lobster slowly, chewed it with intention and enjoyed the explosive pleasure of taste from every mouthful of lobster.
I also indulged in cocktails. I had one every night with my husband. I sat and looked out at the ocean, drinking my cocktail slowly chatting with my guy about life. I indulged in every moment and every sip. It was oh so precious.
I also indulged in sleep. We were on an island, so it was quiet beyond quiet. The melodic sound of the bell buoys and breezes through the pine trees was pure bliss.
Oh, and then there was that rainy day where we ate an amazing clam stew, made with freshly shucked clams, sitting by the fire watching the rain and fog in the distance.
So, there you go. When you are on vacation, I suggest you indulge in the things you can’t get at home and do it slowly, with intention. That way you won’t mindlessly eat junk just because it’s there. Enjoy and savor every moment and every bite of those things you just can’t get at home.
