Driving is not recommended when you are hangry.

Hangry….It’s an adjective that describes being irritable due to hunger.  And it is something that can make nice people nasty and trigger cruel words from kind people.

Like when your life has been so hectic, and you’ve not been able to eat much all day.  You feel tense and irritable, but you are still trying to get everything done.  However, you notice that you aren’t thinking very nice things about the people around you and they just happen to be your husband and kids.

Or, when you are working on a big project and you lose track of time.  All of a sudden, you’re feeling overwhelmed with your project deadline.  Your mood is sour, you feel snappy and angry.  That’s when you realize you haven’t eaten anything since your coffee earlier in the morning.

I know you are busy but there are alternatives to “hangry”.  Sometimes all you have to do is step back from the situation, recognize you are hungry, not angry, sour or overwhelmed and implement a plan.  And a simple plan would be to have an emergency stash of real food in your car or at your desk.

I call this your emergency food safety pack.

It is a small bag of healthy, whole food items that will keep your metabolism working at optimal levels.  Foods that you can keep in your car or at your desk for those days when you are running late, and you’re famished.  Or when you don’t have time for a meal, you know you won’t be home for dinner for a few more hours and the only thing nearby is quick service coffee shops or fast food restaurants.

So, what should you have in your food safety pack that isn’t junk food and won’t contribute to your symptoms of a sluggish metabolism?

Your awareness can make all the difference in how you respond.  Learning to listen to the signals your body gives you can change your life in such a positive way, that repairing the symptoms of your sluggish metabolism comes naturally and weight loss is a byproduct.

Instead of allowing yourself to get so hardwired you’ll eat anything and everything in sight or start binge eating whatever happens to be in front of you, take control with a simple plan.

Life was never meant to be a struggle.
